BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ? Junior Henry Holmberg's first place finishes in the 1000 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle highlighted a solid day for the CSUB men's swim team, despite a 128-95 loss to a strong UC Santa Barbara team Saturday at the John S. Hillman Aquatics Center.
The Roadrunner men also found success in the 400 yard medley relay as the team of Luka Leskur, Griffin Bracke, Rene Hjorth and Sampo Sissala claimed victory in a time of 3:28.15.
In the 100 yard free, Holmberg trimmed more than 14 seconds off his winning time from two weeks ago, clocking a mark of 9:24.34 on Saturday. Senior Alexy Belyy came in third in a time of 9:39.50 and sophomore Adam Pawlowski was sixth in a time of 10:21.30.
Holmberg's winning time of 4:33.40 in the 500 yard free was nearly a second ahead of second-place finisher Matt Bartlett from UC Santa Barbara.
In the sprints, Sissala claimed a first-place time of 1:42.09 in the 200 yard free and a second-place time of 1:54.35 in the 200 yard butterfly. Belyy won the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 2:08.03 while senior Justin Burdine clocked a 21.93 third-place time in the 50 yard free.
The ?Runners will hit the road until late January, with dual meets against Cal Poly and Loyola Marymount up first on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. Both meets are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in San Luis Obispo.
