GOODYEAR, Ariz. ? The CSUB men's golf team finished its marathon of six rounds in four days with a ninth place finish at the Grand Canyon Fall Invitational Tuesday at the Estrella Mountain Ranch Golf Club in suburban Phoenix.
CSUB navigated the par 72 course in two?over 290 Tuesday to finish the 54?hole event at six?over 870. Point Loma Nazarene University made up six strokes in the final round to catch Abilene Christian University for a share of the team title at 843 (?21).
Freshman Mike Flynn (Oxnard HS) carded a 73 Tuesday to finish as CSUB's low man for the tournament. Flynn tied for 18th overall at one?over 214. Junior Nick Baratelle (Cypress College) fired a 71, Bakersfield's low round Tuesday, and tied with teammate James Moseley (Arcadia HS) for 65th at 225.
Jake Kuppenberg of Western Washington set a course and tournament record with a 62 Tuesday to come from three strokes behind and win medalist honors going away at 16?under 200. Ryan Sperry of host Grand Canyon placed second at 204 while 36?hole leader Sam Cyr of Point Loma Nazarene finished third at 205.
The Roadrunner men's golf team will take a well earned two weeks off before returning to action at the Cal State Northridge Invitational Oct. 15?16 in Simi Valley.
