Roadrunners Tied For Second At WWU Invite

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The No. 2 ranked Cal State Bakersfield golf team placed itslef in title contention six strokes behind host and leader Western Washington through 36 holes of the WWU Invitational at Bellingham Country Club Monday afternoon.

The Roadrunners led the No. 5 ranked Vikings by eight strokes after Monday's morning round, 281?293, before the Vikings stormed back to take the lead with a 13?under 275 score in the afternoon. Bakersfield shot 293 in the late round.

Roadrunner freshman Chris Killmer, a native of Bellingham, broke 60 both rounds to grab a share of the individual lead through 36 holes. Killmer went 69?68 Monday for a seven?under total of 137. He was the only golfer in the 75 golfer field to card two rounds in the 60s.

Killmer shares the lead with a pair of local competitors. Western Washington's Sean Packer, who recorded the low round of the day with a 65 in round two. Shane Prante of nearby St. Martin's University, went 67?70 Monday for his share of the lead.

Roadrunner senior D.J. Fernando shot rounds of 70 and 74 Monday and is in 10th place at even par 144. Freshman Brady Baguio also cracked the top 20 at two?over 146.

The WWU Invitational concludes with 18 holes Tuesday.
