BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Cal State Bakersfield put together what can easily be considered its best performance of the 2006 on Saturday when the Roadrunners swept through the competition at the Roadrunner Invitational.

Bakersfield took first through fifth place in the Intercollegiate Division to finish the race with 15 points. Second-place Cal State Dominguez Hills was well behind with 44 points.

The Roadrunners continued to receive quality leadership from senior Alyssa Lewis, who was Bakersfield's top runner for the third time in as many races in 2006. Lewis won the five-kilometer race in 19:23, just ahead of teammates Lina Nunez and Jodi Calderon who placed second and third in 19:42 and 19:49 respectively.

Interim Head Coach Robert Boyles had several goals for Saturday's race, and his team accomplished all of them. He wanted to sweep the Intercollegiate Division, as well as have his top five finish with 90 seconds of each other. That was accomplished when Alicia Diaz finished fourth in 20:18 and Lauren Nolasco was fifth in 20:47.

Diaz, formerly Alicia Veiss, was competing for the first time in several years after the former McFarland standout took time off to get married and have a child, but she was a welcome addition to the lineup to secure the sweep.

The Toros' Valerie Tucker (20:55), Brittany Masai (20:56) and Kelly Corral (20:56) were sixth, seventh and eighth respectively before Bakersfield's sixth and seventh runner crossed the finish line. Bethany Lopez was ninth in 21:25 and Erica Silva was 10th in 21:36.

Bakersfield competes in its fourth of six meets this season next Saturday when the Roadrunners travel to Riverside to take part in the UC Riverside Invitational.
