`Runners Finish Home Slate With Huge Win

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Roadrunners finished home slate of the 2023-24 season with a statement win over the UC San Diego Tritons. The Tritons are currently placed second in the conference, Bakersfield came off a win over the third place UC Davis Aggies just five days ago.

The Roadrunners began the night honoring their five Seniors. Cameron Wilbon, Naseem Gaskin, Modestas Kancleris, Dalph Panopio and Kaleb Higgins were also recognized prior to Thursday evening's matchup.

CSUB finishes with a home record of 10-4 (71.43%). This is the best home record since the 2020-21 season where the `Runners finished with a 9-2 (81.82%) home record. Big outings from Kaleb Higgins, Marvin McGhee III, and Tom Mark helped CSUB take down UCSD. The Tritons were unable to contain Higgins as he scored 29 points (8-17 FG, 9-9 FT). McGhee had 15 points (6-12 FG, 3-9 FG), and Mark 12 points (6-12 FG, 2-3 FT). Mark also pulled down seven rebounds and added two blocks to his stat line.

This matchup was tightly contested. CSUB jumped out to an early 12-3 lead in the first six minutes of the game, but UCSD quickly closed the gap and paced with the `Runners through the first half.

The second half started how the first ended, with the two teams exchanging and not being able to create much separation from one another. The Roadrunners were up five with just over four minutes left to play till McGhee sunk a pivotal three pointer to go up eight. Bakersfield eventually turned that into a thirteen-point lead, which featured two big fastbreak dunks from Mark and Naseem Gaskin.

Bakersfield will finish the week in San Luis Obispo to take on Cal Poly (4-25, 0-17 BW) on Saturday, March 2 at 7 p.m on ESPN+.
